« Protect the environment by complying with legislation and regulations and the other commitments we have signed up to ». A.Abarro

Environmental preservation has always been a tradition at MANAGEM. We focus on:

 industrial water treatment and recycling: water is a scarce commodity for mines, generally obtained 25 to 60 Km away from the industrial site;

 making dikes and ponds leak tight: to avoid losses by infiltration and the risk of underground flow pollution;

 monitoring and control of industrial process flows and risks of infiltration;

 eradicating emanation of dust and the monitoring of risks of gas emanation;

 replanting of sites and the use of droplet irrigation to save water;

 rehabilitation of closed sites: protection of structures, rainwater drainage, covering of dikes, impact studies and permanent monitoring of water quality.

To structure its environmental approach, MANAGEM uses the Enterprise Environment Plan method. Trialed in 2000 on the Guemassa industrial complex in preparation for ISO 14 001 certification, it is being extended to the Group's other sites.

The Guemassa industrial complex containing the REMINEX Research Center (research, chemical analyses and mineralogical characterization and environment), MANAGEM's hydrometallurgical units, Techsub (boreholes and underground work) and CMG (production of zinc, copper and lead concentrates), received ISO 14001 certification in 2003.

ware of its pioneering role in environmental matters in Morocco , MANAGEM includes the environmental component in all its activities through systematic impact studies (Akka, Draâ Sfar, etc.).

Innovation and technological progress at the service of the environment:

The Research Center , a key element in MANAGEM's development, has as its ongoing strategy, the quest for dike improvement processes. One of these innovations was responsible for the birth of hydrometallurgy, MANAGEM's second main specialty, whose patented processes are in the avant-garde of clean production.

Constant research efforts aim to reduce the consumption and use of products which could affect health and the environment in our treatment and processing procedures.

Industrial risk management:

As part of a general risk-management policy, the approach to industrial risks, piloted on the Guemassa site, is based on:

 Identifying the environmental and industrial risks likely to occur;

 Evaluating the possible consequences;

 Implementing improvement actions and means of control and limitation/protection in the event of remaining residual risks occurring.
